To help you plan your Missouri wine country getaway, we've designed the sample itinerary below, based on business hours during Rocheport's peak season (April through October). In the quieter season, weekday hours of many businesses vary.
Come back to the bed and breakfast for check-in between 4-6 pm and enjoy coffee or tea refreshments and fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies (Rocheport appetizers) before dinner. Then head up to the Les Bourgeois Bistro for fine dining and a beautiful sunset over the Missouri River. Can't arrive before 6 pm? No problem, just let us know you plan to arrive later and we'll explain our convenient self check-in procedure.
After dinner, enjoy stargazing from our patio or while strolling through the quiet streets of Rocheport with your special person by your side. Or, stop in at the Rocheport General Store on Central Street for a cup of coffee or something to satisfy your sweet tooth. Most weekend nights, you can catch live music there provided by area talent.
When you're ready for a good night's rest, snuggle into your comfy bed, between the down-filled duvet and the featherbed topper. Sweet dreams!
Wake to the inviting aroma of fresh brewed coffee and breakfast cooking in the Common Room. After a leisurely, full breakfast with the other guests, it's time to head out for some outdoor adventure on the Katy Trail. If you didn't bring your own, rent a bike at the Trailside Cafe and Bike Shop for a few hours and explore the most scenic section of the entire 225-mile trail between Rocheport and Huntsdale, with the 200 ft. towering limestone bluffs on your left and the Mighty MO flowing on your right.
Not into cycling? The trail is also great for walking, with park benches located alongside the river's edge starting just east of the trailhead area. Or, stroll through the old railroad tunnel on the west side of town and see the smoke stains that still remain on the hand-hewn rock inside the 240 ft. long tunnel.
Missed your shopping opportunity yesterday? Here's your second chance; all the Rocheport shops are open 10am - 5pm Wednesdays through Saturdays and Sundays noon - 5pm. Enjoy a variety of high quality antique and gift shops, art galleries, and a bookstore all within walking distance of the School House Bed + Breakfast.
When you're ready for lunch, try the Trailside Cafe' grill at the Trailhead or the Rocheport General Store on Central Street, or try some down-home Missouri BBQ at Grumpy's Cafe on the outskirts of town.
Looking for a river adventure? Mighty Mo Canoe Rentals offers a guided canoe float by reservation, usually on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons. You'll get a Lewis & Clark history lesson as you paddle the Mighty Mo with an area naturalist and river historian as your guide.
Just looking for some down-time? Relax with a good book in our Common Room or sneak an afternoon nap in your guestroom. You have a key to the School House Bed + Breakfast, so you can come and go as you please during your stay. By 4 p.m., the smell of fresh chocolate chip cookies will lure you back into the Common Room for a snack and then it's time to consider your dinner plans...
Abigail's on Central Street is our local gourmet restaurant with an intimate, coffeehouse atmosphere and is just a 3-block walk from the School House. They recommend reservations for dinner served Wednesdays through Sundays (573-698-3000), so it's a good idea to make those at least a day in advance. Make sure you save room for dessert - or bring one back for later.
After dinner, enjoy the peace and quiet of a time gone by in our historic community. Have a cup of coffee and chat with other guests in the Common Room. Stroll the grounds and sit by the fountains, drinking in the forgotten sights and sounds of a small town. Looking for more nightlife? On Friday and Saturday nights, check out the entertainment at the Rocheport General Store, provided by area musicians. Or spend some time (and money!) at the Isle of Capri casino in nearby Boonville, just 13 miles west of Rocheport.
